"Nesting Among the Debris"

I have been wanting to get an image of this swan in the nest for several weeks now. I went back to the same location many times. The days that I had the correct lens with me the swan was out swimming around. I waited for hours. Neither the male nor female ever got into the nest.
Finally the last time I went there she had laid her eggs and was there the whole time, but almost never looked up. I waited there for a long time, even though I didn't have the correct lens with me. Finally she raised her head and I got this shot.
I think swans are so beautiful, I love seeing them glide around so gracefully. Such wonderful creatures!
The sad part about this image and this is not an unusual thing, is the human trash, and debris around the nest. Why would people want to throw trash anywhere except where it should be! The trash can, or recycling! Why should all the creatures of the earth have to suffer because of human carelessness.
When you look at the whole picture it is of course not just limited to what people do to the animal world, but what people do that affects the whole world, and that includes the whole human race and the generations to come.
Someone might think; who cares, it's just one plastic bottle! Well what if everyone thought the same way. Our whole earth will be one giant trash dump, and we will, and actually are all suffering the results!
Would we want someone throwing their trash into our houses and yards. I'm sure not! Then why should people throw their trash into the "homes" and "yards" of this swan, or any other animal!
Just my thoughts on the subject!

  1. I'm working on a post as we, so to speak, speak about a robin's nest that a high wind dropped on my front lawn last spring. The things woven into it are much like your description of the swan's nest. This is so lovely. Thank you.
